Concerning Recent Changes...
A new ‘Contrast’ file type has been added to Liquid Story Binder
XE. Use the Contrast’s dual-columned display for direct item
comparison. The Contrast file type has three display modes: Right
Align, Centered, and Stretched. Choose ‘View Mode’ from the
Contrast ‘File’ menu or click the ‘Change View’ toolbar icon to
change the Contrast display.
A ‘Check for New Version’ menu option has been added to Liquid
Story Binder XE. Use this feature to quickly check for new LSBXE
updates and upgrades. This feature can be found under the main
‘About’ menu.
Color scheme compatibility has been added to the Listing file
type. The Listing file type now has three display modes: Standard
White, Color Scheme with Icons, and Color Scheme with Type Labels.
Choose ‘View Mode’ from the Listing ‘File’ menu to change the
Listing display.
Planners now include color item indexing and item status
labelling. Apply a color option to group items. Use the flexible
status label to display progress information. Choose ‘Color’ or
‘Status’ from the Planner ‘Content’ menu. Non-existing items are
no longer indented.
The ‘No Image’ Dossier panel display has been removed, slightly
increasing the type’s display size and flexibility.
I have one terminology change to announce. For the sake of
clarity, ‘Books’ have been renamed ‘Binders’. As always, one
single Liquid Story Binder XE ‘Binder’ can be used to store and
write many books. Menu options reflect this change.
How I Use Liquid Story Binder XE
Version 4.81...
I use three Planners shuffled to the left side of the screen. The
first Planner, listing Chapters, uses color coding to
differentiate content. Status labelling is used to show each
Chapter’s level of completion.
I use a second Planner to organize Checklists. The Checklists are
based on scene rather than Chapter and are my primary outlining /
brainstorming type. For quick access, the Planner is set to
‘Checklist Mode’. Items are color coded to differentiate Chapter
groups.
The last Planner is used to organize Dossiers, color coded by
family and importance. This Planner is set to ‘Dossier Mode’.
These three Planners are saved as a Workspace entitled .planning
with no Chapter or Checklist windows opened.
Opened Chapter windows overlap and hide the narrower Checklist and
Dossier windows. All windows are of the some height.
I use one general Checklist to list problems and priorities --
things I need to think about or resolve.
To the right of the screen, I leave the ‘Line Note Viewer’ tool
opened. The ‘Line Note Viewer’ allows me to quickly jump to
specific points within the text. Any Line Note containing a
question mark, asterisk or exclamation point will appear bold
within the ‘Line Note Viewer’ reminding me of important unfinished
work. Scenes within the Chapter, as well as key moments, are
separated by Line Notes.
I create one Builder per Chapter. These Builders are used to store
discarded material and can be opened using the Chapter’s
Association dialog.
I also have a Word Building archive stored within a Builder -- a
custom reference encyclopaedia. A Workspace entitled .worldbuilding
allows me to quickly access this Builder as well as reference
Galleries and Dossiers.
Lastly, I have a writing Journal, quickly accessed using a
specific Workspace.
I use the Newspaper color scheme, black on light beige. |
